The bow is sharp to reduce resistance, minimize pitching and increase
manoevrability in ice. (c) Bagheera-sailing
Bagheera's back bone (c) Bagheera-sailing
The rudder is supported by a strong skeg, but still has a
balanced surface to improve the helmsmans feeling with the
vessel (c) Bagheera-sailing
Double bottom tanks for diesel oil and drinking water provide a
stiff bottom for optimal keel support and a solid base for the
chain plates. (c) Bagheera-sailing
Bagheera is divided into 5 watertight compartments. The comp-
artments are accessible via water tight doors and hatches.
(c) Bagheera-sailing
The yellow deck increases visibility in case of an air search. The black hull on the other hand
increases the changes to get spotted from the bridge of a large ship when the weather turns
bad and the sea turns white from the foam and spray (c) Bagheera-sailing
The entire hull, deck and big parts of the bottom are insulated with an 8 to 12 cm thick layer of
two component foam to keep the boat warm and free of condensation. The foam is fire resistant
and therefore in case of a fire, it would slow down and contain it. (c) Bagheera-sailing
40 degrees temperature difference between inside and outside is not a problem at all.
(c) Bagheera-sailing
The staysail will be used in medium to heavy weather, the top is covered
in a fluor orange patch of 6 sqm. to increase the chance of being sighted
by other vessels. (c) Bagheera-sailing
For the same reason as the orange patch on the staysail, the storm jib
and the trysail are made of fluor orange sail cloth. (c) Bagheera-sailing
